There's a right way to be single, a wrong way to be single, and
then...there's Alice. And Robin. Lucy. Meg. Tom. David. New York City is
full of lonely hearts seeking the right match, be it a love connection,
a hook-up, or something in the middle. And somewhere between the
teasing texts and one-night stands, what these unmarrieds all have in
common is the need to learn how to be single in a world filled with
ever-evolving definitions of love. Sleeping around in the city that
never sleeps was never so much fun.
Movie Reviews
How to Be Single is
about a group of people who are trying to deal with relationships in
their own way. That's the most simplest way I can explain the plot and
this movie just evolves into so much more… drama. First off, the best
thing I can say about this movie is the performances from Dakota Johnson
and Leslie Mann. Johnson plays a girl in her 20s trying to get over a
relationship with her college boyfriend while Leslie Mann plays a doctor
who is not sure if she wants to be a relationship ever. Both of them do
the best with what they have and they are probably the most enjoyable
part of this movie. Also, there were 1 or 2 parts where I was laughing,
but that doesn't save the movie from the bad things. First off, the
writing is bad. It puts every character in a stereotype that doesn't
make them interesting. Also, most of the humor was awkward or just not
funny at all. Rebel Wilson surprisingly wasn't that funny. I've seen her
in Pitch Perfect and I thought she was hilarious in that movie but in
this, she's not that funny at all. Also, you can clearly tell that
characters are so unrealistic and there is no way that any of these
characters would do the things they do. Another thing that made me mad
was the themes of this movie. From reading the title, you would think
that it would be about how to get over a relationship and move on. In
reality, this movie should've been called How NOT to Be Single because
because the movie switches from "It sucks to be single and you need to
be in a relationship" to "It's okay to be single" and then it just goes
back and forth from there. Overall, this movie was saved just barely
from the performances. I give this a 4 out of 10.
